10 Tips To Improve Your Nighttime Routine

A good nights sleep is essential to the productivity and mood of our days, so it's time to start working on our nighttime routines! Today I'm sharing ten tips that'll help you make the most of every evening, set you up for a great nights sleep and make your mornings even easier. And if you're looking for ways to make your mornings even better, too, check out my tips for improving your morning routine!

10 Ways to Improve Your Nighttime Routine

1. Tidy up your room

There's nothing worse than waking up to a messy room — especially when you're rushing to get ready for work and can't seem to find anything you need! That's why I always like to take a few minutes each night to clean up my room and put away everything that's out of place. Plus, it's just great to go to sleep in a room that's nice and clean!

2. Plan your outfit for the next day

Anyone else ever have those mornings when you can barely get out of bed, let alone figure out what to wear to work? I've had so many days where I just stare at my closet, hoping a cute work outfit will appear but of course that's not how it works! Make mornings easier on yourself and figure out what to wear the night before. If you're indecisive like me, you can even give yourself a few options and see what you're feeling most in the morning.

3. Make a to-do list

Take a few minutes to think about what you have to get done tomorrow. Of course, this list might change once you head into the office or check your email inbox in the morning, but it's always good to have a starting point! And, if there's anything important you have to get done tomorrow, writing it down the night before will help guarantee that you don't forget about it once all of the other work hits you.

4. Put away your electronics

This one is so important but so difficult sometimes! A huge step in having a great nights sleep is keeping our electronics away — the lights from our phones actually keep our brains awake so trust me when I say there's science behind this! I try to put my phone and laptop away for the night at least 30 minutes before I'm planning on going to sleep to ensure that my body and brain are ready for bed.

5. Read a book

Since you're putting your phone away for the night, reading a book will not only give you something to do, but it'll actually probably help you fall asleep! Unless you're reading a thriller or some super interesting book that you just can't put down, reading is a good way to help us prepare for sleep and tell our minds that it's time to start relaxing for the night.

6. Follow your skincare routine

I love ending my night with my skincare routine — especially cleaning my face and moisturizing my face and body! It helps make me feel ready for bed and excited to wake up knowing that my skin will be clear and hydrated in the morning. Keep an eye out, because I'll be sharing my favorite skincare products on the blog later this week so you can see my favorite nighttime products!

7. Set a bedtime

I know, I know, you're not 6 years old BUT hear me out... Having a specific time in mind of when you're going to get in bed and go to sleep each night is a surefire way to guarantee that you'll actually stick with it. By doing so, you're less likely to stay up all night binge-watching Netflix and telling yourself "just one more episode" because you'll know exactly when it's time for you to get to bed. Once you start going to bed at the same time every night, you'll also notice that it's even easier to fall asleep and wake up since you're on a schedule!

8. Use a pillow mist

It's such a simple thing to do but it makes such a big (and pleasant) difference! I'm a huge fan of lavender-scented pillow mists because I find the scent very relaxing and calming, but there are so many different kinds out there. All ya gotta do is spritz a little bit on your pillow and comforter each night and you'll doze off to sleep even faster and easier than normal!

9. Keep your phone away from your bed

If you're a light sleeper like me, then even just one simple notification from your phone can wake you up from a deep sleep. Avoid that by keeping your phone on a different side of your room so you don't see/hear it as easily if it goes off. You can even use 'do not disturb' mode, which will stop your phone from receiving calls, texts or notifications while you sleep. The great thing about it, though, is that you can allow calls from specific people just in case they absolutely need to reach you.

10. Have a glass or bottle of water by your bed

There's nothin' better than taking a few big gulps of water right when you wake up, which is why I keep a big glass right next to my bed every night. Not only will it obviously help hydrate you for the day ahead, but it'll also help wake you up which is a huge plus!
