8 Things To Do Before 8 A.M.
Whether you're a morning person or not, starting our mornings off strong is crucial to how the rest of our day goes. Start your morning off groggy and lazy? Chances are, your whole day will be that way. Start it off motivated and productive? You're setting' yourself up for an awesome day, girlfriend! That's why I've made it a habit to incorporate at least a few productive tasks, no matter how big or small, into my morning routine each day. These eight methods are my favorite way to start my day!
8 Ways to Start Your Morning Strong
1. Have a big glass of water
For real, nothin' wakes me up better than a glass of water in the morning. It's the first thing I do every morning, before I even put my glasses on! Starting your day off with water not only helps hydrate your body and skin, but will also just make you feel refreshed and awake in general.
2. Stretch it out
You don't have to get too crazy, but stretching either in bed (a great way to wake yourself up when you're feeling groggy!) or right when you get up is so great for you! I like to stretch out my legs, arms and neck for a few minutes before starting my day — it'll feel fantastic after a good or bad night's sleep!
3. Stay unplugged
I'm so guilty of immediately checking every social media platform known to man upon waking up each morning, but the days that I stay unplugged for just a little bit longer are always so much better! The Instagram pics, tweets and snapchats will still be there waiting for you when you're ready, so enjoy a peaceful morning before diving into social media.
4. Make your bed
My boyfriend is WAY better at this one than I'll ever be and he always reminds me that starting your day off by making your bed is 100% setting yourself up for a successful day. By starting out with something productive (even something as simple as making the bed), you're getting in the right frame of mind to accomplish a lot for the day.
5. Make a lil time for exercise
Even if you just go for a brief walk around your neighborhood or even around the office before heading into work, a little bit of exercise goes a long way! You'll feel happier and ready to tackle the day even after just 15 minutes of exercise. It's also a great way to naturally energize yourself... so much better than caffeine!
6. Journal or read a book
If you're feeling off or need some motivation, an inspiring book or podcast is always a great thing to turn to! I love listening to podcasts on my way into work each morning because it gets me in a great mindset to accomplish anything the day brings. Journaling or writing down a few things you're grateful for is also an awesome way to put things in perspective and remember how great life is each morning!
7. Write out your To-Do list
Once you feel like you're ready to tackle the day, write out everything you have to do. The method to my to-do list madness includes numbering each task and putting them in order of importance. I follow the list in order without allowing myself to jump around, even if a task is daunting. It's better to get the big, scary, important stuff outta the way when you have the energy and motivation to accomplish them!
8. Have a healthy, filling breakfast
They aren't lyin' when they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Even if you have to prep your breakfast in advance or make a smoothie to bring into the office, make sure that you have a filling meal an hour after waking up. It'll help you feel sustained and energized all day long!
