How to Initiate Personal Growth + Goals to Set For The Rest of The Year

When it comes to goal setting, we often forget how important it is to set goals that pertain to our personal growth. Instead, we tend to just graze the surface by setting goals about our health, fitness, career, or finances — all of which are incredible goals to set, of course, but when we fail to thoroughly find the "why" behind our goals first, they may not bring us the true happiness we’re searching for.

That’s why I’ve found that it’s SO important to set a few goals each year that’ll help initiate personal growth. And if you’re wondering how exactly to do that or what kind of goals you can set in order to help grow yourself, then keep on reading because today’s post will definitely help you out!

3 Tips to Initiate Personal Growth

1. Think about what’s important to you and what makes you TRULY happy

Spend some time thinking about what's most important to you when it comes to your lifestyle and wellbeing — is it learning, relationships, or mental wellness for example? Once you hone in on a few things that are super important to you, start thinking about goals you could set that would put those qualities at the forefront.

You can also think about things you enjoy doing and tasks that make you happy, and set goals around them. One example of this is the fact that I LOVE reading books — it relaxes me, teaches me new things and allows me to get out of my own head. That's why one of my goals for the rest of this year is to read a chapter each night!

2. Set specific, attainable goals based on personal growth

It might seem strange at first to think about your goals in the context of personal growth, but once you realize just how important these goals are to you and exactly WHY accomplishing them will make you happy, you’ll feel a lot more confident in pursuing them. Set goals that are specific, attainable and measurable, and make sure they all come down to helping you grow into the person you hope to be… see the list of 10 goals below for an example and take what you need!

3. Remember that self-care is key

No matter what goals you set to initiate personal growth, always remember to take care of yourself first. As we set out to accomplish goals, it's TOO easy to get caught up in everything we hope to achieve — we could spend all day and night chipping away at work for a whole week and forget about our mental health and wellbeing in the process! Be sure to check in with yourself often to make sure that you're not overdoing it, and take breaks for self-care when necessary.

10 Lifestyle Goals For The Rest of The Year

1. Learn Something New

Whether it’s yoga, embroidery, meditation, astrology, marketing, rocket science or anything else under the sun doesn’t matter… just learn a new skill that you think you’ll love! Consider what skills or traits may bring you joy and enjoy the time you spend while learning something new.

2. Take A Few Risks

As stated by the lovely Summer of Coffee with Summer, “Push yourself outside of your comfort zone, so that you can learn and grow.” When thinking about personal growth, it's important to consider the aspects that make us not-so-comfortable, too. How can you improve on those aspects? Start taking some risks and getting out of your comfort zone, girl!

3. Try a 7-Day Social Media Detox/Limit screen time after work

Why, you ask? Lemme tell ya…

·      More ‘you’ time

·      No more comparison game!

4. 80 Ounces A Day

I’m talkin’ water, people! Staying hydrated has too many benefits to count, but some are: your skin will look clearer, you’ll be more full and less bloated, you’ll feel more clear-headed and productive and your whole body will thank you! If any of these incredible aspects are on your list of things to work on, then sticking to something small such as water intake may be a great goal for you to start with.

5. Read 3 Books

It’s the perfect way to de-stress after work, get ready for sleep, and it may even teach you a thing or two if you pick a great book! AND, this tip can even coincide with tip number one (learn something new), to take that goal even further.

6. Pamper Yourself Weekly

Taking care of ourselves is so important for our wellbeing! Pampering ourselves doesn’t have to be super time consuming or expensive, either… Mandy of A Girl, Obsessed Blog has a post with FIFTEEN ways to pamper yourself without spending a penny!

7. Develop a Morning/Evening Routine

Having a strong daily routine will make your day-to-day life so much easier. Creating routines also helps us easily chip away at our goals day by day, so consider what important aspects you want to incorporate into your daily routine that'll get you closer to those goals! 8. One Kind Act Each Week

Want to work on improving your mood, gratitude, or outlook on life? There’s nothing better than doing something kind for another person! It doesn’t have to be major, and can be as simple as holding the door open for a stranger, sending an old friend a nice text, or telling a family member why you’re thankful for them. Just spread the love, girlfriend, and I guarantee you'll be happier, too!

9. Journal At Least Once a Week

Keeping a journal and adding an entry each day or week will help you check in and take note of your feelings and thoughts. It’s great to look back on at the end of each month to see what’s making you happy and what you could work on.

10. Set Happiness Goals

If you haven’t been setting happiness goals for yourself, then it’s time to start! My lovely friend and mentor over at InSearchofSheila.com explains happiness goals like this: “they aren’t necessarily filed under ‘urgent’ or ‘important,’ but are vital to fight against stress and overwhelm.” Setting goals that bring you joy and some ‘me’ time will help you achieve all of the other urgent and important goals you set for yourself, too!
